Delia Associates The Brand Success Agency in Marketing & Advertising Business Directory
Michael A. Delia founded Delia Associates in March 1964, in Maplewood, NJ. It continued to expand over the years and in 1982, moved to Whitehouse, NJ, where it is still based today. One of the companys early clients was Werner & Pfleiderer Corporation, a German-based manufacturer of plastic extrusion systems that aspired to tap the US market. At the time, Werner & Pfleiderers US operations consisted of a small start-up sales office in Waldwick, NJ. Delia Associates developed a comprehensive marketing approach that helped the company rapidly grow into a major North American entity and the predominant company in its sector. Another keystone account was Calmar, which Delia serviced for over 23 years. Through Delias marketing direction, Calmar also quickly became the industry leader and the worlds largest manufacturer of mechanical dispensing devices. Deeply rooted in the plastics and packaging industries with clients such as C.T. Main, Wheaton, Allied Signal, NFM, and Packaging Industries, Delia Associates still serves these dynamic market sectors. During the 1970s and 80s as the agency continued to prosper, it expanded into other markets including cosmetics, jewelry, specialty foods, giftware, pharmaceuticals, electronics, space technology, world trade and trade show promotion. With an established track record of marketing expertise, Delia Associates was selected to be the exclusive North American agency for the three largest trade fair operations in the world: Dusseldorf and Hannover in Germany, and Milan in Italy. The company helped develop the North American market for the worlds most prestigious trade events such as Interpack and Kunststoff at Dusseldorf, CeBit at Hannover, Macef at Milan, EMO at Hannover, and many others. Delia Associates demonstrated a unique knack for promoting overseas shows to potential US exhibitors with international interests. The Company enticed hundreds of firms to exhibit overseas, directly contributing to increased US exports. Delia Associates was the first firm certified by the US Department of Commerce to organize US exhibitors for overseas fairs. The company was also selected by the US Department of Commerce to launch Export Expo, a show for potential exporters, which was endorsed by then President Ronald Reagan. The 80s marked the heyday of Delia Associates. Annual sales increased over 100 percent per year, and the company employed over 40 people with satellite offices in Chicago, Los Angeles, Toronto, Milan, London and Dusseldorf including a special office at NASAs launch site in Cape Kennedy. At the time, Delia was engaged by NASA to promote the commercialization of the space shuttle. With an established method for marketing trade fairs, M.A. Delia decided to directly participate in what he promoted over the years, and launched his own show, Plastech 86. The show proved successful, and while initial plans were developed for Plastech 87, M. A. Delia elected to refocus the companys effort toward becoming a top full-service marketing communications agency. As the 80s came to a close, the company continued to prosper and was one New Jerseys first marketing communication firms to use computer graphics as a working tool for creative design. In the early 90s, with the onset of the recession, the agency was challenged as companies nationwide downsized, and significantly reduced promotional spending. Delia Associates quickly adjusted to the trends and developed new methods and technologies to streamline its operations. The company turned the corner when it won the Advanced Monobloc account in 1992. Advanced Monobloc, North Americas leading manufacturer of aluminum aerosols, was a part of CCL Industries, a holding company that served the packaging industry with a broad range of resources and companies. Shortly after Advanced Monobloc, Delia Associates began to serve other CCL Industries divisions, including Kolmar Laboratories and CCL Custom Manufacturing. In 1995, Mr. Delias son, Edward, joined the firm. Edward became president in 1998. M. A. Delia stayed on with the firm as senior consultant until January 2000, when he retired. The new millennium marked a new beginning in the companys dynamic history. Under Eds leadership, the firm embraced new communications technologies and entered into strategic marketing and brand development. The company has branched out from its industrial roots, now serving a diverse clientele that includes several technology-driven firms and consumer-based accounts. True to its historical foundations, however, Delia Associates is still a leading marketing firm for the plastics and packaging industries, but also has served diverse industrial and consumer accounts ranging from Merck to the World Trade Centers Association to Flemington Furs. The company has specialized in launching new companies and products and often helps entrepreneurs get their companies off to a quick start with a unique brand identity and fast exposure in the marketplace. From its very beginning to present day, Delia Associates acknowledges its greatest strength to be the highly talented employees that drive its valuable collective thinking and superior creative services. While over the years, technologies and lines of communication may change, Delia Associates, as always, will provide a comprehensive approach to marketing, and highly professional services that fosters growth and brand leadership.
