Karin Funke-Rapp holds a Ph.D. in Japanese Studies from the Free University of Berlin and an M.A. in Political Science and North American Studies. Karin is a native German speaker, fluent in English and Japanese, and also speaks conversational French. During her studies she spent two years in Tokyo at Sophia and Keio Universities and researched the transfer of Japanese management styles in the automotive sector. After working as a journalist for broadcasters such as ZDF and NHK she became an international management trainee at BMW, where she gained her first experiences in training and PR. She later worked at DaimlerChrysler in PR, in particular becoming a communication consultant to the CEO of Mitsubishi Motors after DaimlerChrysler and Mitsubishi Motors formed an alliance in 2000. Two years ago Karin founded FR Communications. She has published several books and papers, including “DaimlerChrysler´s Strategy towards Asia” and “The Internationalization of Japanese Companies.
