Great Circle in Marketing & Advertising Business Directory

Great Circle endeavours to put its money (and its time) in the same place as its corporate mouth. This commitment was recognised in 2004, when the firm was a finalist, in the CSR category, in the National Business Awards for Scotland. Great Circle was short-listed against Scottish Power, BAA, Marriot Hotels and Rangers Football Club. Great Circle participates in Common Purpose, a national charity established to give young professional people an insight into the workings of their city. This programme introduces the participants to the planning, economy, local government, crime, healthcare, education and arts sectors in the home city. Since 2002, Great Circle has supported Arts & Business, providing business expertise for specific arts organisations in Scotland. In 2003, the firm hosted its own Poet in Residence during the summer months – the first PR company in the UK to do so such a thing (winning an Arts & Business award along the way)! Great Circle is also an active member of the Scottish Council Development and Industry (SCDI). Both of the firm’s directors sit on the boards of charitable organisations and other members of the team are involved in professional and community projects on a voluntary basis. The firm has contributed significantly to raising awareness of breast cancer throughout Scotland, creating and organising events such as Breakfast at the Balmoral and Terratextiles. All the money raised went towards Cancer Research UK’s breast cancer research programme. Great Circle believes that Edinburgh Zoo plays a key role in the education of children in the city and the long-term conservation of a host of animal species. Accordingly, the firm sponsored an Ostrich resident at the zoo as it felt that this was appropriate from a communications perspective – something about not allowing clients to stick their heads in the sand! Sadly the Ostrich went the way of all creatures in 2003, since when the firm has adopted the Bali Starling. The firm has an environmental policy (freely available) that outlines its approach to resource conservation, waste management, energy conservation and transport. This includes the use of EVOLVE 100% recycled office paper for all its day to day work, recycling of waste paper and cardboard, use of recycled computer hardware and printer consumables and low energy lighting.
