Our organization, Marketing Agents South, Inc., formerly Brown, Gilmore, Bounds, and Shelton, Co. was established over 48 years ago. The company was based in Jackson, MS and all of the partners worked their respective territories from that central location. The company philosophy was to search for the highest quality and most respected food service equipment manufacturers and represent them in a professional and ethical manner. As we have grown, and the needs of our customers have changed we have established a mission statement that best defines our philosophy. The Mission of Marketing Agents South is to be the Leader in our sales area in Sales, Customer Service, Training and Support. We will achieve this by continually educating both ourselves and our customers and will represent our company and the manufacturers we represent in a professional manner. Marketing Agents South continued to grow and the owners saw the need to expand its coverage in order to meet changing needs of our customers and manufacturers. Therefore, in 1985 the company decided to place a partner of the firm in each major city of our territory. Our goal was to service those markets in an expeditious and timely manner. Those partners are Curtis Shelton, Bob Rowan, Bill McKinney and Gary Barbaro and they represent over 130 years of combined experience in the foodservice industry. This approach of having a partner in each market has been very successful. Our customers have told us on many occasions that it has been beneficial to have a company owner living and working in their market. As Marketing Agents South evolved, the need for internal support and technological knowledge increased, Pam Herrington joined our organization in 1988. She operates our computer systems, supports the quote function for our customers and handles general customer service. As technological and reporting needs increased, Pam was joined by Becky Williamson in 1991 in order to handle much of the additional quoting and customer service needs. We are proud to say that our customers continually tell us that Pam and Becky are second to none. In order to complete our mission of being leaders in Customer Service, Training and Support, we decided to have a facility that would allow our customers to be shown the latest in technology and efficiency in a relaxed manner. We felt that this would allow them to learn and kick the tires of equipment that they were going to purchase and specify, so in 1994 we built our offices at 848 Centre Street with a 1400 square foot, fully operational test kitchen that seats 40. The test kitchen was the first by any Rep Agency in our territory and we now have a similar facility in Memphis, New Orleans and Little Rock that are utilized by our customers. As we evolve, our goal is to continue to meet the changing needs of our customers and the community.
